Any lifting involving a trapped patient should be clinically led by a doctor or paramedic. Once the clinician is satisfied the lift can proceed, place the lifting bags ensuring they are in contact with the load.

Communications are vital and the lift operator must ensure they have a clear view of the scene. Lift slowly and always back up the lift using blocks and wedges. Ensure you have a stable base and all personnel position themselves away from the load. As soon as the load is clear the patient can be removed.
