CONSTRUCTION

I have cut literally hundreds of brand-new vehicles over the last ten years and I have not yet found a vehicle structure I could not overcome with relative ease and only a small adaptation of technique. Not only have I cut these vehicles, but I have looked critically at how the latest generation of tools are working. It is generally around 50% of their capacity. That means, they are working with lots of residual power. Any issues I have faced have been of my own making (usually due to incorrect tool positioning) or failure to identify something I should not be cutting (e.g. seat belt anchor bolt). That is down to user skill, or sometimes lack of. It is incredibly important that emergency responders understand that although incredibly strong, modern day vehicle construction is not something that should greatly impact on your rescue efforts providing you have the right tools. I can offer some reassurance in the fact that with very little exception in my experience, our tried and tested methods work perfectly. Vehicle Extrication - The NEXT GENERATION looks at advanced high strength steels and what it really means to extrication.
