MENTAL FIRST AID

MENTAL FIRST AID

When discussing personal safety, it is all too easy to focus on the potential physical harm we may be exposed to as part of our role as emergency responders. We routinely discuss risks, hazards and control measures in relation to our practical working environment, but up until very recently, we rarely discuss the potential for mental harm that may result due to what we see and experience. Attending and dealing with road traffic collisions can impact on our mental health and I would urge all emergency responders to highlight any concerns they have either personally, or in relation to their colleagues.
